Kenpo 5.0 Media Page
September's Theme: Fighting Through
Continuous sparring in a controlled environment teaches many valuable lessons; lessons about self-defense
and personal fortitude.
Defending against someone bigger, defending against a different gender, and
defending against more experience are all real possiblilities.
Bumps and bruises may happen but, there is no better way to safely learn
what can only be taught through contact.
Check back to the Media page often as we will update the video or other media often. Each month will introduce a new theme. Themes will change every month with the media information changing periodically within that month. Some months will cover specific principals or concepts covered in Kenpo training while others may include combat models or other concepts specific to Kenpo 5.0.
We will be including content in addition to The Monthly Theme. We're excited to be able to offer a constantly updated website. Feel free to contact us with any helpful suggestions or comments.

Kenpo 5.0 Seminar Pictures
Jeff Speakman and Company gave over six hours of seminars!
Jeff Speakman - 7th Degree Black Belt, Anto Parseghian - 5th Degree Black Belt, and Dan Pribble - 3rd Degree Black Belt
all took turns with specific concepts during this fast-paced and informative seminar for the Kenpo 5.0 children's karate
group. The young athletes learned concepts on settling and the power of the kiai (yell) from Mr. Parseghian. They learned
how to reverse the mount while on the ground from Mr. Pribble and they also learned some sparring strategies from Mr. Speakman.
Throughout, the children were being assisted in practice by a host of black belts from other schools in the A.K.K.S. who
traveled from California, Colorado, and New Mexico to be a part of this fantastic day of learning and Kenpo fun.
The adult Kenpo 5.0 seminar covered a lot of material, beginning with a detailed run-down of the Thrusting Wedge self-defense
technique. The extension to the technique was taught and expanded upon to include an ankle pick take-down and a choke technique
taught to Mr. Speakman by Jiu-jitsu instructor, Todd Nathanson.
The seminar then moved into a grappling drill that included escapes from the closed guard, the hammer lock arm submission, and
the arm-bar. This drill flows from one technique into another, allowing both practitioners to attack and defend and was very
effective.
After a short break, we moved into an addition to the 5.0 self-defense technique system, Collapsing Vise. This technique employs
the advanced ground posture known as the spider guard. Mixed in with some Kenpo 5.0 concepts, this technique will prove most
useful in situations where the defender is on her/his back and the attacker is attempting to "stack up" on them.
It was a full day but, everyone benefitted from the innovation and skill of Mr. Speakman before the day was done. We are
exceptionally grateful to Mr. Speakman and all of our out-of-state guests who traveled in to take part in this event.
